Through use of guitar, loops and samples he creates a unique and powerful alt. folk experience. For Fans Of: Tunng, James Yorkston, The Miserable Rich. Continue reading

What? The Miserable Rich

The Miserable Rich perform lyrically strong folk at times bordering on chamber pop. What? Tom Brosseau / Essie Jain / Very Special Mystery Guest

From Grand Forks, North Dakota Tom Brosseau plays introspective Americana with a haunting intensity. Dark yet uplifting. Evoking 1920s troubadours Tom is a real storyteller, his songs are packed full of imagery from U.S. railroads to growing women from the ground (see mp3 below)!

What? Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards / The Sleeping Years / Tim and Sam’s Tim And Sam Band / Kathryn Edwards

Dan Michaelson is normally the instantly recognisable voice of Absentee. Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards is a side project not a million miles away from his day job. Strummed acoustic guitars and that big big voice.
For Fans Of: Smog, Nick Drake.

Main support comes from the critically acclaimed The Sleeping Years which is the vessel for the music of Norhern Irish songsmith Dale Grundle. Drowned in sound said his album ‘We’re Becoming Islands One By One’ was the only release in it’s field to get close to Bon Iver’s 2008 masterpiece. Heavy praise indeed. I think we have a potential show stealer on our hands.
For Fans Of: Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, John Martyn.

Further support comes from Tim and Sam’s Tim And Sam Band’s blissful experimental folk jams and singer songwriter Kathryn Edwards.

When? Friday, April 17th.

Where? Downstairs @ The Kings Head, Crouch End.
