What? Passion Pit

Boston electronic whizz kid Michael Angelakos plus band = Passion Pit.  They are undoubtedly one of the buzz bands of the year so far but luckily they’ve got some substance to back it up. Their debut EP Chunk Of Change impressed, particularly ‘I’ve Got Your Number’ and the massive ‘Sleepyhead’, and debut full length ‘Manners’, due out May 18th, looks set to follow in its footsteps and make the band one of the successes of the summer. Rob Da Bank loves them too, he’s already booked them for a gig at Heaven and for his Bestival festival on Isle Of Wight. Book up early.

For Fans Of: The Avalanches, Friendly Fires, Empire Of The Sun.

When? Tuesday, Oct 27th.

Where? Koko, Camden.

How Much? £11.50

mp3: Passion Pit – Sleepyhead

Passion Pit are definitely one of the big buzz bands of the festival so far, the queue for this one was colossal. So do we believe the hype? Yes. Despite a crappy sound and melting temperatures the band played a blinder and had the crowd eating out of their hand. Front man Michael Angelakos is a great performer. He was bounding about the stage and up on his chair at virtually every opportunity. They played all the songs from their debut EP Chunk Of Change. ‘Sleepyhead’ got probably the best reaction of the festival so far. UK folk go see them at Heaven or The Great Escape, check their MySpace for other locations.

For Fans Of: Hot Chip, MGMT, The Avalanches.

What? Passion Pit

They’ve only released one excellent EP but already there’s a whole lot of buzz around this Massachusetts band and quite rightly so it would seem. I saw them at an instore recently and their psych electro pop jams are just as infective as on record. This gig is courtesy of that nice guy Radio 1 DJ Rob Da Bank.

For Fans Of: Friendly Fires, Chairlift, Empire Of The Sun.

When? Wednesday, May 13th.

Where? Heaven Under The Arches, Charing Cross.

Welcome to a new feature where I share with you what’s going to be soundtracking my weekend. The general theme which is bound to change a little is: Friday – upbeat dancey, Saturday – upbeat indie, Sunday – shhh.

So here we go, just for kicks:

Friday

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead

An indie/dance anthem in the making courtesy of Cambridge, Massachusetts’ Passion Pit. Taken from their excellent ‘Chunk Of Change EP’.
Catch them live at The Great Escape.

Saturday

Napoleon IIIrd – Zebra

Self made dictator with a knack for a great tune and a witty lyric. Poor zebras though!
Taken from the Hideki Yukawa EP which was out on Monday.
See him live in Brick Lane next Thursday.
I have 3 tickets available for this gig so get in touch.

Sunday

The Low Anthem – Ticket Taker

A special bit of Americana here from one of my favourite new bands. This is taken from their limited edition Oh My God Charlie Darwin single. Makes me picture a sun drenched American landscape and dried up oil fields…
‘I keep a stock of weapons should society collapse’.

Enjoy and please feel free to leave some comments on the tracks…

What? Passion Pit

One of my new favourites (thanks Dave) play a free instore at the wonderful new Puregroove Records store in Farringdon. Think MGMT meets The Avalanches.

The show starts at 13.30 on Thursday 19th Febuary, it’s only a small shop so get there early to avoid missing out.

Below is one of my favourites from their recent Chunk of Change EP (emusic) for your sampling pleasure.

Hope to see you there.
