What? Blur / Foals / Crystal Castles / Friendly Fires

This second date has been added to the initial Friday one and it’s a truly amazing line-up to warrant your £45. Blur need no introduction. Here’s a brief synopsis of the others:

Foals: math rock i.e. indie disco meets prog rock i.e. loud, fast, danceable rhythms with amazing instrumentation and shouty vocals. Way better than it sounds! They made my favourite album of last year – Antidotes.

Crystal Castles: Cool as fuck Canadian experimental electro duo of Alice Glass and multi instrumentalist Ethan Kath.

Friendly Fires: English disco rock heroes who ahve caused a real stir since releasing their debut album last year. Think an English version of The Rapture and you’d be near enough.

For Fans Of: Blur, The Rapture, Bloc Party, Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Holy Fuck, Battles.

When? Thursday, Jult 2nd.

Where? Hyde Park, London.

How Much? £45

Mumford & Sons-in-northamerica

Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy (Air France Remix)

I’m not always a massive fan of remixes but this re-working of Friendly Fires gem ‘Skeleton Boy’ by Air France hits the spot. Apparently they don’t usually do remixes as the Swedish duo consider them a bit crap but if they do then they really tear the track to bits and make it their own. They’ve done themselves justice and the remix nicely slips into their body of work, which if you’re unfamiliar with, is superb.  I hate to call it a chill album so check out the laid back Sunday morning vibes of their debut No Way Down, one of the best of 2008.

Wave Machines – Punk Spirit

A recent discovery of mine Liverpool’s Wave Machines are a joy to behold live and it sounds like they’ve got the recorded material to back it up. I can’t wait for their debut album, due out later this year, but for now wrap your ears around this perfect slab of cheeky Scouse indie pop. Some inspired lyrics – it won’t take long for you to hear what I mean.

Mumford & Sons – White Blank Page

A really powerful folk song from London’s own Mumford & Sons. I’ve been playing this track for weeks since stumbling across it on MySpace somehow and have recently learnt that a friend’s brother is in the band. Happy days. This has a Bonnie Prince Billy intensity to it, yes it’s that good. The band have just announced a headline show at Scala on April 8th, look out for a post on that coming right up.

The St. Albans 3-piece announce a London headline date in April. Tickets will sell quickly so set a reminder.

When? Thursday, April 30th.

Where? The Forum, Kentish Town.
