The Horrors @ Electric Ballroom, Camden. June 5th 2009Before last night I’d never seen The Horrors live. Having become somewhat obsessed with their second album, the thrilling ‘Primary Colours’, I was half excited to hear it in the flesh, half nervous that any illusions of greatness I had would come crashing down in one fell swoop. What? The Horrors

You remember the impossibly skinny jeans wearing London lot who rose to fame very quickly back in 2007? Weren’t your cup of tea? Don’t be put off completely as they’re back with their first release for new label XL recordings and it’s a very different sounding affair. ‘Sea Within A Sea’ clocks in at almost seven minutes and is a gloriously dark disco number. Their second album ‘Primary Colours’ is out May 4th and evokes everyone from The Cure to early Brian Eno. It’s been receiving rave reviews so far, take a listen for yourself through the streaming gadget below. Come June expect this to be the hottest ticket in town.

And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead @ SXSW 2009 by

What? And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Long time purveyors of the orchestral, epic rock song And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead were one of the highlights of their hometown festival SXSW in Austin this year. They’ve finally split with their label Interscope who have been getting them down for years now and finally find themselves back on the form of old with new album ‘Century Of The Self’. Expect ear splitting sound levels, double drumming and smashed instruments aplenty. Their live shows are legendary.

For Fans Of: Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai, At The Drive In.

When? Thursday, April 23rd.

Where? Electrc Ballroom, Camden.

How Much? £12.50

Wolf Parade, Electric Ballroom, 1st Dec

Yes yes yes! It’s almost time for the mighty Wolf Parade to grace our shores once again. I’ve been waiting ages for this one in case you didn’t guess. Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug found time between side projects (Handsome Furs and Sunset Rubdown respectively) to release a follow up album to 2005’s awesome Apologies To Queen Mary. Their new release At Mount Zoomer didn’t disappoint although definitely didn’t have as many standout tracks as its predecessor.  I wouldn’t miss this for the world.

What? Wolf Parade

Where? Electric Ballroom, Camden

When? Monday 1st Dec
