What? Lo Fi Fnk

Lo Fi Fnk (pronounced: LO-FI-FUNK) are a Swedish duo signed to Moshi Moshi, the label that has been a temporary home for the likes of Hot Chip, Architecture in Helsinki, Bloc Party and Friendly Fires over the years. They’ve been making music since their teens and now luckily they’re legally old enough to get into the clubs playing their music. Miss their glorious mix of skittering electronic bleeps, other-worldly-sounding vocals, and raw dance beats at your peril!
For Fans Of: Crystal Castles, Daft Punk, Cut Copy.

Casio Kids of Norway play gorgeous electro tinged indie dance jams with hypnotising pop melodies and vocal harmonies in both Norwegian and English. They’re influenced by an eclectic mix of afro-beat, techno and, like seemingly all Scandinavians (admittedly usually the Swedes), full on pop.
For Fans Of: Paul Simon, Cornelius, New Order.

The Hundred In The Hands is composed of The Boggs’ Jason Friedman and touring bandmate Eleanore Everdell, they make the kind of hypnotic, tribal disco that you can dance long through the night to or as the band themselves put it “These are soundsystem-backed, foot stomping, clap hands beats for akimbo-limbed boogie kids. Ballrooms and bar floors are built strong, it’s time to give them a pounding.”
For Fans Of: Television, The Golden Filter.

Casiokids, SXSW 2009 Day 1 by

Casiokids are from Norway and sing in Norwegian. A novel concept when you think of all the other popular Scandinavians of recent years (The Concretes, Peter, Bjorn & John, Lykke Li, etc). Highly danceable indie rock with an electronic undertone.

For Fans Of: Friendly Fires, Peter, Bjorn & John.

What? The Answering Machine + Casio Kids + Flash Guns

Personally I’d reverse the bill for this but here’s how they line up this time around:

The Answering Machine headline the night. Nice catchy tunes with spikey indie guitars, energetic but not personally my cup of tea.
For fans of: The Maccabees, The Wombats, stuff like that.

Casio Kids are second up and a lot more exciting. Yes there are inevitably keyboards and lots of interesting blips and bleeps and they sing ion Norwegian, it’s nice to see someone giving their mother tongue a go before trying English.
For fans of: Peter Bjorn and John, Lukestar, The Whitest Boy Alive.

Flash Guns open the proceedings. I’ve been harping on about these young whippersnappers for ages now. Interesting new fact though – they’ve recently become the last band to record at London’s Olympic Studios which was made famous by Led Zeppelin and U2 amongst others. As if that wasn’t enough, they were given the opportunity for free! Catch them while you can.
For fans of: The Clash, The Libertines, Bloc Party.

When? Wednesday, March 11th.

Where? Hoxton Bar & Grill/Kitchen/whatever

How Much? £5
