What? The Yeah Yous / Blue Rose Code / Miccoli / Joe Rose

More support: London/L.A. outfit Miccoli and Midlands songsmith Joe Rose.

Blue Rose Code – Whitechapel

Jamie Woon – Wayfaring Stranger

What? Jamie Woon + Blue Rose Code

Jamie Woon is a singer/songwriter from London. From what I gather he writes heartfelt guitar tunes with a hip hop sample influence. I don’t usually like this kind of music but Jamie seems to have something that others I’ve heard so far don’t. Burial must think so too as he remixed his take on the traditional folk song ‘Wayfaring Stranger’.

This Electroacoustic gig is part of East, a six day festival from 5-10th March celebrating amongst other things: music, art, fashion and design across East London.

For Fans of: Sublime, Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper.

Supported by Blue Rose Code who I recommended last week and I’ve had no reason to change my mind since then. Buy their excellent Whitechapel/Love double single from Ho Hum Records.

For Fans of: John Martyn, Nick Drake, James Yorkston, Bonnie Prince.

When? Thursday, March 5th.

Where? The Slaughtered Lamb, Farringdon.

What? Blue Rose Code

Ten days ago they played a night dedicated to the memory of recently passed folk legend John Martyn. Based around the Celtic folk musings of frontman Ross Wilson, Martyn’s sound is not a million miles away from what this talented London band are trying to create. They’ve recently supported Loney Dear and James Yuill has done some excellent remix work for them.

For fans of: John Martyn, Nick Drake, James Yorkston, Bonnie Prince.

Support comes from Lucky Jim and Fin.

When? Monday Feb 23rd.

Where? Electroacoustic Club @ The Slaughtered Lamb, Farringdon.
