Camden Crawl 2009 Review: Bombay Bicycle Club @ The Constitution.

What? Bombay Bicycle Club

This was an acoustic set from the London four-piece (today 3) so an odd live introduction compared to their usual indie pop stompers. But a very rewarding one nonetheless. Ever grinning front man Jack Steadman is an accomplished finger picker and although his quiet vibrato voice is a little timid without its microphone, there’s real beauty in its delicacy. Frankmusik’s pounding disco beats upstairs force the band outside to perform an unplugged acoustic set down by the canal where they have a better chance of being heard. It’s a beautiful sun drenched day so the move is welcomed by all. We’re treated to a run through of some B.B.C. favourites and some old time folky covers including tracks by Neil Young and Bert Jansch. These youngsters have serious talent!

For Fans Of: Hot Hot Heat, Bright Eyes, Cajun Dance Party.

Django Django @ Camden Crawl 2009 by musimule.co.uk

What? Django Django

From DALSTONBURGH-DUNDERRY according to their MySpace. Colourful shirts, danceable rhythms, catchy vocal harmonies although you wouldn’t know it with tonight’s soundsystem. Despite the sound system the band get this late night crowd dancing with their percussive, wonky pop gems. I’ll definitely be checking them out again soon. See Thursday date below.

For Fans Of: The Earlies, Archie Bronson Outfit, Animal Collective

Live: Thursday April 30th @ Hoxton Bar & Grill

Everything Everything @ Camden Crawl 2009 by musicmule.co.uk

What? Everything Everything

Another great playing thanks to those nice folks at Adventure in The Beetroot Field was Everything Everything, a new Manchester 4-piece. These guys sound like something to get very excited about. Elements of a lot of different bands I love rolled into one. They manage to sound prog-y but essentially poppy at the same time. Following hot on the heels of Animal Collective’s breakthrough album these guys have timed their arrival perfectly.

For Fans Of: Animal Collective, Radiohead, Interpol, Kate Bush.

What? General Fiasco

Northern Irish melodic rockers from Belfast. A classic 3-piece sound with big riffs, a tight rhythm section and sun drenched pop harmonies.

What? The Rumble Strips

I wasn’t expecting to get anything from this London band but was pleasantly surprised when I caught them playing as part of Island Records’ 50th birthday party at The Constitution . They’re far from ground-breaking but they delivered classy, confident, piano heavy, horn tinged guitar pop gems with added cheeky swagger from big voiced front man Charlie Waller.
For Fans Of: The Killers, The Walkmen, The Zutons.

Camden Crawl 2009 Review: Filthy Dukes @ The Earl Of Camden.

Filthy Dukes

What? Filthy Dukes

Grown up, cow-bell heavy, euphoric disco treats. Perfect to kick start your Friday night as was the case with this gig. Highlight of their set for me came from ‘Twenty Six Hundred’ a song from their new album ‘Nonsense In The Dark’ which we were told was about their favourite drum machine. Delicious, dark, dirty beats and bleeps.
For Fans Of: The Chemical Brothers, The Juan Maclean, Junior Boys.
