Little Joy take Camden by storm, 21st Jan

Little Joy were in town last night for a one off London gig to support their wondrous debut album. Support came from talented The Dead Trees who have toured with Little Joy for a run of over 40 dates. Tonight was their last prompting emotional goodbyes as both bands took the stage for the majority of Little Joy’s set. While the support went down well for a relative unknown it was the headliners who deservedly stole the show.

There were a lot of Brazilians in the audience there to support Rodrigo Amarante (Los Hermanos) who takes lead vocal duty for most of Little Joy’s songs. He delivered the goods and had the audience eating out of his hand from first song ‘Evaporar’ with it’s Portugese vocals and hushed electric guitar. From there on in they never looked back as Fab Moretti (The Strokes) lead ‘his’ band through (I think) every song off their debut album Little Joy (no prizes for inventive titles here). Other core member Binki Shapiro who has one of the sweetest voices I’ve heard in a while also impressed on a couple of their strongest songs ‘Unattainable’ and overall highlight ‘Don’t Watch Me Dancing’.

Fab ‘Fucking’ Moretti made a point to tell Dingwalls that they were the ‘best crowd ever’ a few too many times but by the end the applause was so loud that most people believed him.
